  Special Honoree
JoAnn Fiorentino-Lucas
"Our Beary Best Friend"

JoAnn was the beloved Delegate Director of Rainbow Chimes at the time of her sudden and unexpected death in October 2007. She left behind a piece of her heart and a legacy of caring for our school and the children that will always be remembered with love. She spearheaded many of our recent endeavors, including grant-funded programs and a major playground project, educational activities, strategic planning, and a fundraising campaign.

JoAnn was an endearing businesswoman who acted as an inspirational leader in every industry she touched, starting with 27 years at Allstate Insurance Company, managing Community Affairs and the Allstate Foundation. Over the following years, she worked for United Way of Long Island, LI Head Start, Cavline Auto Services, and the Huntington Learning Center, before becoming a cherished leader at Rainbow Chimes.

JoAnn’s clever intellect, loving heart, and purpose-driven soul enabled her to take the potential she found in people and situations and make these into powerful realities that enhanced whole communities of people, and she took a leading role in all these organizations: Crime Stoppers, Long Island Breakfast Club, Suffolk County Emergency Medical Council, LI Network for Community Support, Friends Assisting Nassau Seniors, NY Coalition for Transportation Safety, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Timber Ridge Homeowners Association, The Lighthouse Mission, and the Suffolk Independent Living Organization, among many others. It is no wonder that Senator Caesar Trunzo honored her with a NYS Woman of Distinction Award, and she was given many other awards over the years as well.

Though JoAnn’s life was cut short by Ovarian Cancer she never knew she had, up until a few minutes before she left us, she was still engaged in the affairs of our school and the many people she loved. As we remember JoAnn, we do so with gladness, grateful for the time she had with us, remembering that though she is no longer where she was before, she is now wherever we are.
