As with all other age groups, Active Learning and High/Scope philosophies are emphasized in our School-aged Child Care (SACC) programs. We work with a variety of materials, both real and commercial, and highlight social interaction and conflict resolution strategies in a recreational setting.

Since children have already been in an academic setting for several hours, the SACC program emphasis is on providing a leisure environment in which children can discover social relationships and their personal needs and feelings (and how to appropriately act in ways to fulfill those needs). Physical activity needs must also be provided for.

The layout and design of the SACC High/Scope classroom facilitates the implementation of the curriculum. The room is divided into specialized areas each intended to develop a specific behavior. Likewise, the areas of the room are adapted for the differences between the various ages and developmental stages of children in the room.
